Denise Saffren

Los Angeles (native) based artist, Denise Saffren has been a professional sculptor & 2D artist for over 30 years. After graduating the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, she jumped right into freelancing for anyone that needed artwork. From murals, to logos, to remakes of master works, she did what she could to survive. She then found work as a Jr Designer at a shoe company. Designing shoes for Disney license product.  Then to Klasky Csupo, where she was a Jr Character Designer for the animated show AAAHH!!! Real Monsters for Nickelodeon. After more freelancing, she landed a corporate sculpting job at Mattel toys in ‘97. She sculpted traditionally in clay and wax and then as the digital age swept thru the industry, she started digital sculpting using Freeform by 3D Systems in 2001 and 3D printing. After 17 years as a Senior Sculptor for Mattel, she started her own sculpting business, The Sculpting Dept in 2015.

In 2017, a medallion she hand sculpted was featured in the exhibit, No Spectators: The Art Of Burning Man at the Renwick Smithsonian in Washington DC. Today, she continues to sculpt toys but also gets the opportunity to sculpt whatever anyone needs. One of her companies projects, a 21’ x 21’ relief, can be seen on the new The Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, CA. Please enjoy her new adventure with ‘Towanda Tikis.’ You can follow her @DeniseSomething on IG or @TowandaTikis.
